Registered Psychologist

About Me

I was born and raised in BC and moved to Alberta in 2014. I have known what career path I would pursue ever since I was a child and after high school, I went for it! I completed my Bachelor's Degree (Psychology) at the University College of the Cariboo in Kamloops, and then my Masters Degree (Counselling Psychology) at the University of Victoria.

I have worked in the counselling world for over 15 years, in various capacities and have gained valuable knowledge and training along the way. I'm passionate about helping others and I feel that this translates into my non-work life as well. I take my self-care seriously and try to always remain mindful of my well-being so that I can always give 100% to those I am supporting.

I'm a mother to two girls and an ever growing collection of fur babies. I love food and cooking, gardening, being creative, getting outside and spending time with those close to me. I believe that life is short and therefore we must take the risks, dare to dream and never give up on what truly makes us shine.

My Approach
Life is hard sometimes, we know this. Challenges come in all shapes and sizes and at different stages of our journey. Sometimes we lose ourselves along the way. We do the best we can with the tools we have, even when these tools are limited or no longer helpful. I believe in the power of human resiliency and people’s capacity for personal growth. You are the expert on your own life, and whether you are working to heal from a past trauma, trying to improve your relationship skills, overcome struggles with anxiety or depression, increase your sense of self-worth, dealing with a loss, or just working to find yourself again…you’re not alone; I can help.
I have experience and training in a variety of therapeutic techniques, but ultimately, I work with you to identify what approach and tools are going to work best for your personal situation. My main priority is to create a warm and safe environment for you to be able to do the work that you need to do.

I also recognize some of the stigmas around men seeking help and showing vulnerability, and I work hard to break down those barriers and to provide a safe and non judgmental environment in which men can feel comfortable expressing themselves and learning new skills. Additionally, if you have a teen who may be reluctant to engage in the therapy process, have no fear, I’ve been nicknamed the “teen whisperer” and I take that title very seriously! I believe my greatest gift as a therapist is my authenticity, my humour (when appropriate of course), and my natural ability to connect with others.
Please reach out if you’d like to know more, or to explore whether I would be a good fit for you or your family member.

Warmly,
Katie
